MANILA CITY – The Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF) Human Resources Unit, Administrative Division conducted a webinar honoring the solo parents of the BLGF entitled “Empowering Solo Parents” held last 18 October 2022 via Zoom, which was participated by the officials and employees of the BLGF Central and Regional Offices.  

Chief Administrative Officer of the BLGF Central Office Administrative Division, Ms Melcy M. Baluyan, in an opening message, recognized the struggles and fulfillment of solo parents of the BLGF and encouraged to create a community and safe space for single parents to gather and share experiences.   

“We are glad that through this activity, our knowledge about the rights and benefits of solo parents will be broadened and institutionalized in the Bureau’s future HR policies and initiatives. We will see to it that the Bureau will support the provisions of the Solo Parent Welfare Act of 2000 and the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act”, Baluyan said.  

Ms Herminia S. Arcanghel, Social Worker Officer IV of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) – National Capital Region (NCR), served as resource person for the webinar and provided an overview of the Solo Parent Welfare Act of 2000 (RA No. 8972) and Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act (RA No. 11861).  

The “Empowering Solo Parents” webinar is part of the series of HR interventions in the month-long celebration of the 35th milestone anniversary of the BLGF.
